I am the school counselor at a school with some amazing students with a wide range of backgrounds, abilities, and ages. Our students are as young as three years old in our developmental preschool program, all the way up to our 10 and 11 year old 5th graders. Our school is home to three self-contained gifted and talented classrooms as well as a Resource and Extended Resource special education program.
One of our biggest goals as a school is to teach the next generation how to be safe, respectful, and responsible citizens.
The TOOLBOX program helps our students learn how to regulate emotions and solve problems in a peaceful manner. It teaches them that they have the tools within them to resolve conflict and access their own resiliency. These skills are necessary in order to empower our students to be productive 21st century citizens.
My Project
This project requests books with an emphasis on social and emotional learning for children aged five to twelve. These books will help children see how problem solving strategies can help them in our school and in everyday life. When children access these strategies, they will be better equipped to function in the classroom and in society.
These books will be used throughout the entire school by the counselor.
These books will be supplemental resources for a social emotional curriculum called the Toolbox. Toolbox teaches children to access their own resiliency. These skills are more necessary to teach in school today than ever!
