This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Showing a student their potential at the most difficult time could be a turning point in their academic career. Help students receive basic tools that are essential to their education.
My students are from diverse cultures and difficulties with so much energy and potential.
They are in a learning environment where agriculture technology and science are the foundation for education. In this environment they focus on high-level skill development and gaining academic skills proficiency. The student's are introduced to urban agriculture courses that cover veterinary science; landscape and design; urban gardening/horticulture; aquaponics; greenhouse techniques; and food science.
My Project
Because I am a freshmen special education teacher, I often work with students who are below level in reading and therefore "hate" reading.
While they express hatred toward reading, it is simply that they haven't yet found a book that matches their interests.
To help with this, I am requesting various high interest, low readability books for my students to read during their choice reading time in class. This means that the books are interesting and about topics relevant to them, but written at a lower level (instead of them having to read early elementary books and feel embarrassed).
These books will be available for them in our classroom library and I will help guide students to read books that I feel that they will enjoy. Once they find books they can get into, I will no longer hear about how much they "hate" reading.
