Help me give my students 30 copies of Lemonade Wars with 10 copies for my Hispanic parents, and 30 copies of Mr. Lemoncello's Library for Novel Studies.
We are an awesome group of very curious, energetic Montessori students in an urban public school system that is economically challenged. Students need hands-on experience to better understand new ideas and concepts. Students enjoy exploring their academic world through materials that allow them to make connections and manipulate new concepts. They work hard and understand that they are responsible for their own learning. These students come from all different backgrounds and abilities which makes for a very rich learning environment.
My Project
4th and 5th graders love to dig into novels that have some meaning and adventure. They love stories to which they can relate...see themselves in different situations. It's a critical time to establish reading for pleasure, as a habit they can continue throughout their lives.
Do you remember that one book that stands out?
That story that took you away and enables you to get escape to another world? I want to give that experience to my students with a library that has a wide variety of books.
The students get excited when they come to their reading circles to discuss their books. Through guided questions and ways to keep discussion alive, they dig deeper into their novels and take responsibility for their reading. Assignments that focus on character development, plot, figurative language, and theme are just a few skills that we share.
