My Students
I teach at a Title I School in Texas where 97% of our school's population is economically disadvantaged. All of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch. They absolutely love to learn, and despite the challenges most of them face, they enjoy coming to school every day. They do not come to school with experiences in life most students their age are fortunate to have, so it is up to us as educators to help them gain those experiences. Many of the students decided to come to our school because of the welcoming environment and the passion of our teachers.
My Project
Having good reading skills is the foundation of learning that spiral into all the other subject. At our school, we do not have a working libary where students are allowed to check out books to read in the classroom and at home. A classroom library will help my 4th-grade students have access to the book to help them and improve their reading skills and build their stamina. Having good quality books available to them at any time will only make reading more enjoyable. My students are very interested in reading and constantly asking about having a classroom library. I would also like to have some books that students can take to practice reading with their family that would encourage family time.
