Help me give my students the gift of life-long learning. Included in this project are class sets of two books: Embrace Your Weird by Felicia Day and The Freshmen Survival Guide by Nora Bradbury-Haehl and Bill McGarvey.
I teach at a high school in a large school district in Harrisburg, PA. My high school has over 1,400 students from a variety of backgrounds, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. Each student is assigned to a specific homeroom teacher who tracks with the students as they progress through high school.
I have had these students in homeroom since they were in the 9th grade, and the relationships I have made with them have been some of the strongest in my career as an educator in 18 years.
I have watched them grow from unsure freshmen to the confident and boisterous seniors they are today. They are imaginative, focused, and best of all - entertaining!
My Project
We are requesting class sets of two books: Embrace Your Weird by Felicia Day and The Freshmen Survival Guide by Nora Bradbury-Haehl and Bill McGarvey. These books will be gifted to my graduating class of homeroom students. I have had the unique pleasure to watch them grow from insecure Freshmen into the budding young adults they are today.
When my students graduate, I want to ensure that they have the tools they need to be their best and most successful selves!
I have endeavored to cultivate relationships with my homeroom students built on trust and dependability. Every month we celebrate our small success of being that much closer to graduation. These books will help them after they leave my classroom, and we can't celebrate anymore!
