My students need a class set (28 copies) of The Tiger Rising to read and enjoy together as well as to develop literacy skills during Language Arts.

My Students

So many children don't enjoy reading for fun because they are forced to do it and they haven't found a story they love. I have read this story aloud to previous classes but I have never been able to have a copy for everyone to follow along.

I have a class of fourth grade students.

We are 5 weeks into our school year and they are motivated and eager to please! The want to do well in school and so far have shown me that they take responsibility for their own learning. They are all at different reading levels and abilities. They enjoy working with partners and in groups and I think they will enjoy this book.

My Project

This book is called "The Tiger Rising". It was written by Kate DiCamillo. She has written other books such as "Because of Winn Dixie". This book is about two young children who are experiencing their own family problems. In addition to family problems, one is a victim of bullying. The story tells how the two children help each other out while working together to save a tiger. Kate DiCamillo always has important lessons and themes in her writing.

Having a class set of books will hopefully inspire my students to become engaged in this story.

I am hoping it will inspire a love for reading. I am also hopeful that the meaningful discussions this story provokes will have an impact on my students who might be dealing with their own family conflicts.
