Do you know that there are schools that receive free lunch and breakfast for every kid in the school? Yes! We are one of them? You think it is a privilege? It is definitely not. But how does it make them all qualify for free lunch? One of the major reasons is that we have high percentage of low income kids who qualified for the free lunch program in our school.
Our school is a public Title 1 school located in a poverty rural area.
With our hope to provide the best opportunities and education to our kids, we provide dual language immersion program for our kids in this Title 1 public school. We are 2nd year Chinese language and culture learners. We enjoy our class and the culture that has been brought in to the classroom. We are learning the language along with culture with very limited resources.
My Project
Can you image that you walk in to a 2nd grade classroom and there's only one set of textbook that students can read with? Can you imagine that the teacher in the classroom can never read a story to her students because of a shortage books in the classroom?
Reading for pleasure helps students develop academically.
My students need books to read for pleasure to build reading habits, reading skills, vocabulary accumulation, writing skills, and more that can help to develop their academic learning outcome. Also, the teacher needs books to read stories to students, which we all enjoyed when we were in elementary school.
