I am the teacher of a wonderful, urban, first grade inclusion classroom. My class consists of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students as well as regular education students. Having diversity in my classroom has been a wonderful way to introduce children to the many different ways of communicating with others. In addition, it promotes tolerance and acceptance. A key component of having a diverse classroom is organization. Organization helps my students stay on task and encourages order and structure. I have found that students are more engaged and motivated to learn when content is presented in an organized fashion.
My Project
By donating to my project you will help students develop reading stills that are essential for success in first grade. Students will be able to have at least 5 books on their reading and interest level in their desk at all times.
Students learn at different rates, not all students progress at the same level, having their own Bag-of-Books will encourage success and confidence.
Children will always be able to read independently or with a partner.
The pocket charts are essential for reminding the student when to Read to Self, Read to Partner, or Read with Teacher. Together these small purchases will help improve the reading for a very diverse first grade classroom.
