I teach 10-12 graders, primarily in special education, but I also have a class of general education students. We work on becoming well rounded members of the community and being successful after high school.
All of my students mean the world to me.
I would like to continue to build my classroom library. I work with a diverse group of students and work hard to make them feel safe and comfortable.
My students have varied reading levels, from beginning readers to highly advanced readers. I have students with Special Education, at-risk labels, and English Language Learner labels. On the other hand, I also have students in my classes who are in two year advanced math and consistently score several grades above their age in multiple subject areas. This can create a large divide in the opportunities, experiences, and ability levels of my students. Having enough books to meet the range of learners can be a huge challenge.
My Project
I am looking to create an age appropriate, diverse library for my high schoolers. I have chosen thirty books because I will be turning thirty this year and would love to add thirty new books to my library.
All students deserve the opportunity to read books that challenge them and are of high interest to them.
My current library is geared towards younger, lower level readers. In order to create a reading culture in my room, I need to expand the options that my students can choose from. I also work with a diverse group of students and want to give them the opportunity to read diverse authors and diverse stories.
My students will be able to choose from the following books for various activities. My goal is to do a shared reading among a small group of students and we need more copies of the books. The students also need more high interest books for independent reading and partner reading.
My shared reading group will be able to choose from the following books to read and then we will dig deeper about the meaning into the book or what sparked the author to write to book:
