This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Despite the struggles that my students face day-to-day, they are amazing in every way! My first and second graders live in a low socioeconomic area and attend a Title I school at which 100% of the students receive free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch. My students are faced with living in neighborhoods full of gun violence and gangs, yet they are expected to sit still, be quiet, open up a book and learn something new. They are just not focused on the task at hand. It's time to shift the traditional 20th-century learning towards the 21st century interdisciplinary learning to get them more engaged.
My Project
My class need iPads to utilize Siri, fluency apps and and activities for fluency. My students will be assigned specific fluency activities needed to accomplish each day. Students will be able to access fluency aligned all subjects. Each activity would be approximately 5 minutes. A fluency menu of activities will be created to allow students to choose an activity and do them in any order by the end of the week.
Reading fluency practice helps to reinforce steady paced, reading with expression.
Since Siri requires clear reading to understand, students' student's will be reinforced reading with steady pacing and expression.
Siri will also be used to to answer most of the questions asked from the books read. Students will use the Echo Dot to ask and answer question. The teacher will also be able to use Echo Dot to assign groups without taking time away from instruction.
