Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am fortunate to teach in the center of downtown Miami. My school is very diverse, full of students of different backgrounds. They provide great opportunities for students to teach their peers about their cultural background and experiences.
The students are happy to learn from one another and make connections.
This is especially important because I teach very young students. I feel that if students can embrace one another for their similarities and difference at a young age, they are bound to maintain these connections for a lifetime.
My Project
iPads in the classroom will change my students way of learning. It would give them the opportunity to create their own stories both in written form and visually. Students would be able to create their own films: retelling stories, alternate story endings, creating/and performing plays on specific topics. Then through technology, they would be able to playback their experiences.
As a result, my students would be able to highlight and make connections to the text read in both reading and social studies.
Essentially, developing pride in their work. This would also give opportunities for the students to work together cooperatively; connecting readers and non-readers. Thus, improving students' literacy rate and interest in reading.
