My students are an amazing group of young learners. They strive every day to learn and apply skills within our reading class. As their 5th grade teacher, I strive to challenge my students to help them grow in his/her academics to prepare them for their middle school journey.
We are a high poverty school, where many of our families do not have the ability to access quality literature for their child/children outside of the school setting.
The Storyworks Magazine will accommodate all levels of reading for my students, along with comprehension activities that they will be able to apply to real-life situations. Literacy opens doors for students and enables the chance to live their own journey through the joy of reading.
My Project
My students need to have access to high-quality literature at all times. Each Storyworks magazine is packed with skill-building resources to help introduce and reinforce key ELA skills. Storyworks is also designed to support our rigorous state standards with authentic, engaging texts that help students in reading, writing, speaking / listening, and grammar.
Storyworks will help students build confidence as they explore various genres in reading.
These magazines will be used in a small/whole group setting and partner work on a daily basis. We will have group discussions and continue to grow their reading comprehension and skills.
Storyworks provide multiple genres of text in addition to providing cross-curriculum text, such as Science and Social Studies. My students will be able to feel more confident in their reading abilities and skills.
