Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
More than 80% of my campus is free or reduced lunch and we receive Title 1 money from the state.
My class is made up of twenty-two, free spirited, squishy cheek children that come from many walks of life.
I don't see red, yellow, black or white, money issues or mommy and daddy issues. When you walk inside my classroom, we are one!
These students deserve the very best. And regardless of HOW, I WILL make it happen. Donating to costly projects like these, allow my personal money to go towards other essential/daily room supplies.
My Project
Although I teach second grade, 95% of my students are severely below grade level. I have a large amount of students reading on a kindergarten level, and I simply do not have the resources to accommodate them.
The leveled library books I'm requesting will greatly impact my below grade level students.
It will provide them with plenty of reading experience and give them something to take home to practice.
The historical books I am requesting will help bridge social studies into my literacy block and will give students additional reading experiences. I would rather read a book about a time in history rather than watch a video. This library will help do just that!
