Reading Comprehension with Math Books

My Students

My students are the most curious, intrigued, entry-level programmer-type students that you will ever meet. They come to school smiling, ready to take on the challenges of the day. My students want to be college-ready. They have to work hard. Many of them are second language learners. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and once a month, Second Harvest brings my children nourishing fruits and vegetables. Life is not easy for them, but nothing is going to stop them from learning and being the best they can be.

My Project

I am a strong believer if our students are struggling in Reading Comprehension they will also struggle in Math. Math word problems are usually 1 paragraph and the students have to understand what information is being asked, what information is being given.. KEY for COMPREHENDING and Reading assignment but in a smaller chunks. These journals give real life scenarios in math problems.

The journals help the students explain their thinking in math, students will have to show how to comprehend the questions while working on their conceptual understanding and procedural skills.

These journals are interactive and they do spiral promotion Reading Comprehension and writing while coming to a solution they can solve computationally.
