Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school serves students in grades Pre-K – 6th and provides rigorous academics, warm and caring teachers and a safe learning environment. I teach all subjects in a general education class of first graders in a high poverty school. At our school, 87% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Many of my students are second language learners, but even though they have struggles at home, my students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
My students and I have created a safe and exciting place to learn. We have formed a community of collaboration and cooperation. We seek to find fun ways to learn together which is sometimes difficult with the limited resources we currently have at our school and the limited resources our families have at home. Most of our families do not have any form of technology in their home. Some do not even have books to read.
My Project
An Apple iPad will provide my students with the most up to date and hands-on educational tool in use today. My students will be able to use the iPad daily during math workstations and small literacy group lessons. Apple provides many free applications for use in the classroom. My students will be very engaged by the hands-on opportunities an iPad provides through sight word practice, reading stories, reinforcing math skills and vocabulary development.
My students are visual learners with limited resources at home and need a lot of motivation to learn.
The iPad will help to keep them focused and keep them learning.
This project is very important. Your donation will allow a group of first grade children to be better prepared for the future. The hands-on learning opportunities an iPad will provide will go far beyond the walls of my classroom.
