My students are sweet, smart, happy, but most of all, resilient. Due to Hurricane Harvey, many of my students lost their homes. Many are still living with family, living in RV's, or living in their homes with no walls that are being fixed while they reside there. They show up to school every day on a campus that is not there own. They are housed in a 7th grade reading classroom as 3rd graders. We try very hard to make their displaced classroom feel like their own.
My Project
Due to Hurricane Harvey, all of our class reading centers, library books, supplies, and furniture were either ruined by water or remain boxed up and stored in our classroom that remains unusable by us. Students have been able to use some reading board games that were donated by another elementary school, however, students need to be challenged daily to achieve their full potential. These reading centers will allow for my students to review skills that have been taught and allow them to apply those skills to their real work experiences. We learn that reading can takes us places we may never get to go!
