Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students and community I serve are amazing. Many parents work two jobs to make ends meet. Many speak English as a second language. My students and their parents take the obstacles they face in stride. I am consistently amazed and touched by their drive, determination, respect for others and care for one another.
My students learn English at the same time that they learn all the subject matter school requires.
They may not have material possessions but they have amazing hearts.
My Project
This project focuses on reading centers and hands on reading practice for struggling readers. The games included are based on sight words. Additional materials included in the project will help me create durable reading centers and word sorts to help improve my student's reading skills.
The games will offer hands on reading practice for my students.
They will be interacting with reading and words in a different way than what is presented in the curriculum. The games and Sight-Word Sentences center will allow the students to learn via play alongside their peers. The Alphabet Transparent stamps will offer a kinesthetic aspect to word building. All of these items will encourage reluctant or timid readers to further their ability in a low pressure setting.
