Our school is a Title I school. This means that a large portion of students are economically disadvantaged. Our school does not have a lot of funding set aside for new and relevant books. This is a critical age where a lot of students have lost a love of reading, even though they are they still enjoy being read to. As 8th graders and the oldest in the school, they explored our small school library for many years and no longer find it a magical place.

My students are bright, funny, and inquisitive. They have so much potential, and I am honored to teach this wonderful group of young adults.
My Project
Many of my students, being the teens they are, do not love reading. I want to to entice my reluctant readers to pick up a book. Our school library often does not have the newer young adult books, the books students are relating to and talking about. I plan to use the books to enhance my classroom library and peak the interest of my students. Some of these books will be read aloud, while others will be book talked to gain interest for independent reading.

Martin. I want my students to live a thousand lives. Most of my students are economically disadvantaged and a great book can take them places they may never go otherwise. I want to grow a love of reading with the young adults I teach.
If I can get my reluctant readers to love at least one book, it could be the gateway to reading more. Growing a love of reading is important because reading has the ability to change your life. I don't want reading to be a chore, I want it to be something looked forward to.
