Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Read, Read, Read! That is what my students are doing every day to become better readers. I just started a brand new READ180 reading intervention class at my school and I am helping my 3rd-6th grade students become better readers and learn the joys of reading.
The students work with me for 30 minutes to an hour each day.
During that time they are reading library books at their level, working on phonics skills and working with me in small groups to develop strategies for better comprehension.
This DonorsChoose project will help me create a warm, friendly classroom library environment that makes reading relaxing and enjoyable.
My Project
I have just started a new reading intervention class for 90 3rd-6th graders at my school. All of them struggle with reading, spelling and comprehension. We have three stations that they rotate through every day: my small group, the phonics/technology station and the classroom library.
My goal is to create a classroom library environment that is comfortable and fun so they have a relaxing, safe area to enjoy reading.
The bean bag chairs will help to do this by giving them a comfortable, colorful area to sit and enjoy the books they are reading and listening to. I currently have one bean bag chair and it is always a race to see who can get to it first! Having enough for every student would be wonderful!
