Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a mixed group, from kindergarten all the way to 6th grade. As their Specialized Academic Instruction Lab (SAIL) teacher, I can say that they are a great group of students who are eager to learn and be challenged. They work hard, always try their best. They all want to be better readers, better writers, and better at math. Most of the students in my class have mild-moderate learning disabilities, and some come from a low-income background. I love working with them because no matter what their home situation may be outside of school, they always come to school with a smile, positive attitude, and ready to learn.
My Project
Audio books can be used in the classroom for students who are second-language learners, learning-disabled students, and struggling readers, and non-readers. Audio books can help these students access literature and enjoy books. They will also help introduce students to books above their reading level, teach critical listening skills, and help introduce new vocabulary. Having a listening center in the classroom will help students read more and take more reading counts. These audio books will also continue to enhance a print-rich classroom, students love books and they they treat books in my classroom with love and care. Having this listening center in the class will motivate students to enjoy more independent reading time.
