My students are diverse and energetic. The majority of the students are from low-income households. We are a Title I school, and many of my students are English Language Learners, ELD. They are inquisitive, and they come to class ready to learn. Numerous of my students come to us reading below grade level, but they are still trying hard.
Many of my AP Spanish Literature and Culture students are challenged in their reading and writing skills.
Learning critical analysis skills and rhetorical figures can be challenging for them. Sometimes when students do not feel a connection to a text, they give up, and it is hard to keep them engaged. Incorporating engaging activities to promote critical course analysis and connection with content will be more accessible for the students. There are a variety of texts that can catch students' attention, such as Lazarillo de Tormes, an anonymous picaresque novel written at the beginning of the 16th century. Lazarillo de Tormes was the first picaresque novel and the one that invented the genre. I want their learning experience to be memorable.
