My Students

Have you ever read a story so powerful that it shaped your character? The book Wonder could be the one that does just that for my 6th grade students. Sixth grade can be a tough time for many students and reading character building books is something every ELA classroom needs.

My students are excited 6th grade students with a passion for learning, achieving, and especially reading.

Our building is K-6 and is a Title One building in Michigan. Many of my students receive resource room or intervention support. These kids love to read and especially love being read to.

My Project

I believe reading aloud to children of all ages is important. As a teacher, I want to pick books that are meaningful and inspirational. The book Wonder is just that kind of book. The story shared in this novel is one that teaches kids about their character and who they want to be as people. I believe this is an important story to share with each of my students. This story can build character and that is exactly what middle school students need to be reading.

It is my hope that this book will become a regular read-aloud in my classroom.

I don't just want to build great character in the class that I have now, I want to build good character in the classes that I have in the future. This book will serve as a platform when having those difficult conversations about bullying, teasing, and the choices that define who we are.
