This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am an elementary school media specialist who teaches K-5th graders at a high-need community school.
Many of our students are presently reading a grade or two below grade level. We are also very limited with technology at our school.
My students need 3 MP3 players which can be used to download storybooks. The My Buddy MP3 reading program is designed to help reluctant readers get motivated to read. Students will listen to downloaded MP3s of books and children's picture books on an MP3 player while they silently read along using the actual book as a resource. This program will help enhance students' reading ability by increasing fluency, comprehension and by building word recognition.
Your help will, undoubtedly, cause reluctant readers to get motivated to read as they start viewing reading as a fun activity. The MP3 player will serve as a reading buddy for many struggling readers. As a result, we will see a rise in our student's zeal for learning and ultimately witness an increase in our students' reading levels.
