My students are an awesome mix of inner city and suburban kids and can be a challenge, if not challenged themselves. There is a pretty even split of girls to boys. In my Design classes, my students have the opportunity to put into practice the foundational skills taught in their core classes into real life, career scenarios. Their ideas are creative, innovative, and focus on thinking locally to help sustain the world globally; we just need the tools, resources, and materials to make their ideas into reality and then market them.
My Project
Ready... set... read! Queue the timer! My students love to read and this opportunity gives them some book options to read and a giant timer to work on our reading stamina while also keeping us on track so we also have time to have a conversation about our reading. The timer will represent a new reading goal for each day. We meet only once a week, so having time to read and then additional time for discussion can maximize our time together. It is not always easy to manage our time and keep track of the minutes read, but this timer will help us to keep us on track!
