My Students

As a first-year teacher, I didn't know what kind of class to expect when we started the school year. My students are a tight-knit energetic group of students with shared love and excitement for learning.

I teach in a high-poverty school district and I want to be able to provide not only a positive learning environment but also opportunities that might not be a given at home.

Each student comes in with a story and my goal as an educator is to meet them where they are at and provide support in any area they need. This could be sitting and reading a story one on one or giving a simple hug and good morning when they walk through the door in the morning!

My Project

In our reading curriculum, we use big books for our weekly stories. I have tried every method possible to read them so that all my students can see and I can read and point to the words. My attempts to make this happen usually end up in holding the book awkwardly and distracting my students from the focus of the lesson.

Having this book stand donated to our room would make a huge difference in the way my big books are stored and the reading experience for our class each day.
