Mrs. Russell from Detroit MI is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a set of tablets to support their reading fluency, decoding, and comprehension growth. With only 8 classroom laptops, we are very limited to technology access.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are creative, curious, and excited about learning. They come to school everyday, no matter the challenges they may face at home, ready and eager to learn. Many of our students come from low-income households and have limited access to resources in their neighborhoods.
Our school believes that ALL students deserve an equitable, high quality education in a culturally rich, diverse, resource-filled environment.
I challenge every student in hopes that they feel empowered and confident to explore any topic, great or small.
In our class, we currently share eight laptop computers, one of which is currently out of order. During reading centers, students rotate to a computer station where they can listen to books on and above their reading level, practice comprehension questions, and track their reading fluency through recordings. I'd like to be able to provide more opportunities for my students to practice reading skills and give them access to a wider variety of resources for reading, spelling, and more.
In second grade, students work on mastering of crucial reading skills and by the end third grade, if students aren't proficient in reading, they have a greater risk of dropping out of high school as well as a greater risk of poverty.
Students who live or have lived in poverty are three times more likely to drop out or fail to graduate on time than their more affluent peers. Most of our students are low-income and all receive free breakfast and lunch. With your donations, I will be able to meet the individual needs of students and provide them with more opportunities for reading growth and success!
