My 2nd grade classroom consists of 23 students. We are a rural community school district with a lot to offer our students! I am new to the district this year but not new to teaching. I have 22 years teaching experience in public schools. My second graders have a wide range of abilities. The reading levels within my room range from beginning reader to far advanced readers. I have several students that attend 3rd grade math and I host a few 1st graders in my 2nd grade math class. My students are amazing workers and learners! They strive every day to do their best to shine in and out of their classroom! They make me LOVE being a BEAR!!
My Project
I am requesting leveled reading books for my students to help make their reading experience more beneficial. Small group reading instruction is the most effective way of teaching reading to my students. When they are in their reading group, they have available to them books that are at their reading level. They feel successful and they see themselves as readers!
With the addition of the leveled readers for small group reading instruction, flexible seating within my classroom is also a plus when it comes to our reading time.
Practice is essential and sitting in a fun and comfortable spot makes it more enjoyable! I hope to create a learning environment where my students get excited about reading.
