My students need leveled nonfiction books to enjoy during our Nonfiction reading unit and throughout the whole year!
The Common Core State Standards require students to read lots of nonfiction- much more than they had been doing in the past. In addition, the books need to be high quality and at the students' individual reading levels.
My students are spunky, energetic, and excited second graders.
They love to learn, and they are always so enthusiastic when new books are introduced to our classroom library. My students have access to lots of fiction books in our library, but our nonfiction library is weak. These books will amp up the nonfiction books that my students can read.
The resources requested for this project- nonfiction books at a variety of reading levels for my second graders, will enhance their reading lives. These books will serve to motivate even the most reluctant readers because the photographs are vivid and exciting, and the text is at the appropriate complexity level. Furthermore, these resources support several reading, science, and social studies units that the students learn about throughout the year.
This project is so important to my students because they are craving a bigger selection of leveled books to enjoy.
Second grade is a time when students transition from learning to read to reading to learn. These nonfiction books support their excitement for reading to learn, and allow them to choose books that they are able to read and in which they are interested.
