My students need chapter books, tables clothes, picture holders, candles, small metal cookie sheets, and cardstock to hold Book Tasting Events in the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each morning, I greet my students with a smile and a high five! As they get ready for the day, they honor our country with the pledge and recite the Promise of Success to remind them what to strive for throughout the day and in life. I teach 28 energetic 4th graders.
Life is not always easy for my students, but they come to school with a smile on their face each day and a thirst for learning!
They leave each day feeling proud of what they've accomplished. My school and I strive to reach the needs of all of our students and prepare them academically, socially, and emotionally for their futures.
My Project
Engaging my students in reading is my number one priority! Book tastings are the perfect way to get my students interested in different types of books and genres! During our "book tastings", we will transform our classroom into a cafe using table clothes, picture holders, metal trays, card stock, and candles to set the mood.
Students will then “sample” a variety of books and genres like The One and Only Ivan, The Watson's Go To Birmingham, Who Was Harriet Tubman, and Love That Dog in order to find their preferred “tastes” in reading.
Hosting these book events will help motivate and excite my students about reading! Students will be able to record their favorite featured texts on a menu and then hold discussions about the books with their peers. Book tastings will also give students insight into the types of books they want to read for their 40 book challenge during the school year.
