My Students

A day in my classroom should begin with a smile and end with one too, with some hard work in between. I teach ELA for fifth graders, so our days are filled with reading, writing, and skill building activities. My goal is to fire up learners and empower my students to achieve academic success!

My students are 5th graders attending an urban intermediate school.

My students are on different learning levels grouped into a homogeneous setting. Several of these students lack current technology in their own homes.

My Project

Our curriculum has just been updated to align with the new state standards in Social Studies. As an ELA/SS teacher, my students are in need of historical fiction books. Since both subjects are intertwined, our writing performance tasks are based off of historical event. For instruction I need to to share and model writing pieces for instruction. Chart paper will be a big help for shared writing and to be used as reference for students. The document camera will allow me endless possibilities to share and allow for discussion.

This engaging historical fiction text will allow students to experience the trials and tribulations as a child in the Revolutionary War.

Thus, this engagement will allow students to bring ideas to the table when it comes to observe and create their own writing pieces.
