My Students

The school has a wide variety of students from all different backgrounds. Our campus has about 50% low income and as a Title I campus we are always looking for new ways to bring in new and exciting items that many of the students have not had the opportunity to use or see before. Many of our students are English Language Learners and benefit from having many hands-on opportunities in the classroom. Our kiddos do best when given the change to explore and play by using their imagination in ways we many times could not foresee.

My Project

Phonemic awareness is an important part of learning in kindergarten. It allows students the knowledge to sound out words, spell words, and begin reading! The items in this order will allow my students an opportunity to practice their phonemic awareness skills in a fun game based way.

When students are given the opportunity to learn through playing they are more likely to make the necessary connections for the learning to stick.

Games in this order such as "fishing for sight words" allows students to play and learn at their own pace in their own way! I look forward to seeing how my students progress with the use of these tools.
