My students make a pledge everyday to do their absolute best. I want them to be 21st Century learners and leaders. Giving them access to technology to help them with everyday skills will get them started on their journey.
My students are middle America.
They come from all races and ethnic backgrounds. Their parents work hard to feed and cloth them. They have access to electronics in their homes but they do not always access educational things to do on them. This is not an impoverished school. We do have a computer lab and a librarian. We do not have an open checkbook to buy whatever we choose. We work hard to raise funds to help offset the high costs of educational programs. It is a safe school.
My Project
In the 21st Century it is important to keep up with technology and its ability to help guide instruction. There are hundreds of "apps" available on the internet that help children practice their sight words, guide their writing, and help them learn to read. I plan to have the students use the iPad to practice skills in all of these areas each day. The science, technology, engineering, and math students of the future will need to have the 21st Century skills required to compete in the global world. I want my first grade students to have the opportunity to begin on this journey as innovative, technologically advanced learners of the future.
The iPad can be used in so many amazing ways in the classroom.
This kind of technology does not come cheap. This is not a tool that I can go out and purchase everyday because I have lots of extra cash lying around. When given an iPad with applications that help reinforce skills we address daily in class, students can be independent and successful. My students will benefit on an hourly basis by having this piece of technology in our classroom. Thank you so much for considering my request.
