My students are an amazing group of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are full of energy and thirst for knowledge. They come from a variety of homes and lifestyles; from one bedroom rental property to family farms. They come from a small, rural community with a high poverty rate. Many students come to school to feel safe and loved.
The power of choice is wonderful and I think it would be great to be able to offer STEM activities in my classroom.
Over half of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals. As a teacher in a low income school, it is hard to obtain the resources needed for my students to become successful learners.
My Project
Books, markers, magnets, tape and other supplies will be used for my students to read and to use logic while working collaboratively.
"Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve" -Roger Lewin.
My students need exposure to more literature. Combining literature with STEM projects is a unique way to allow students to feel successful. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control of their learning. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) projects will allow my students to think critically and solve problems. Students will have hands on learning experiences that will prepare them for their futures. STEM activities help my students feel empowered as their creative minds take over!
