My students are outgoing and eager to learn new things every day. They love reading and enjoy special projects that help them reach beyond their goals. My students have strong reading skills and require a challenge to continue growth. Keeping this in mind, to best meet their needs it is critical to provide reading materials at appropriate levels. While my students tend to be more advanced readers, they struggle in math. We work daily to build fluency in foundation skills.
We are a Kindergarten to fifth grade Title I elementary school with more than three hundred children.
All students receive free breakfast and/or lunch. We are a proactive school with several before and after-school tutoring and community outreach programs. Our students' families struggle financially, but everyone is dedicated to helping our parents provide for their children.
The educators and support staff are amazing in their dedication and determination to make a difference in the lives of our students. Our goal is to give each student the very best education and the best support possible at all times. We will not fail in our mission, and our students share our determination to succeed!
Students love fictional texts. With this project funded, my hope would be that my students would love nonfiction just as much. The texts and hands-on learning centers and games incorporate science curriculum and nonfiction reading comprehension together to enhance students' learning experiences. These materials will allow students to connect their reading with the practical experiences to increase retention of information and improve fluency while working with highly engaging center activities.
Students love their center time because these are student-led and collaborative stations.
Games and hands-on learning take place during this time to allow students to practice what they have been taught in whole group instruction in fun and exciting methods. Sometimes, it seems like students don't even realize they are learning. In my classroom, students complete center rotations daily. These materials will go a long way to help us continue to learn and grow in our practice.
