Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Dual language Kindergarten class in a Title I district. My students are also English language learners trying to master objectives in both their native language and a new language they are trying to learn. This is a hard task for my five-year-olds to accomplish, but I know that it can be done.
My students walk into my classroom every morning with big smiles on their faces and ready to learn!
But I realize that I need to provide them with the right materials in order for them to succeed.
My Project
After being displaced because of Hurricane Harvey, we are finally going back to our school! We are very excited because with all the changes due to the hurricane and the displacement, my students have had to be learning in very uncomfortable and crowded conditions.
As we try to rebuild our classroom after Harvey, I realize that my students need many materials in order to keep learning and achieving and overcoming all the damages that Harvey brought.
The materials I requested have different uses. The emergent reader books and file folder games will be used in my small group instruction and my students will use them directly with me. The other games like the pop up Math, the electronic self checking pen and the beginning sound locks will be used in our literacy and math learning stations. The students will be able to use these materials on their own and work at their own pace.
