At our school 95 percent of our students receive free and reduced lunch. Our students live in a unique part of town which is isolated from resources, parks, and after school activities. Many of our parents use public transportation which makes access to outside resources challenging for them such as literacy opportunities.
The particular students who will benefit from this project all qualify for special education services and have mild to moderate disabilities.
My students are really hard workers who put 100 percent towards their learning every day even though learning is really challenging for them. They are resilient and inspiring.
My Project
I have lots of primary students grades K-2 that benefit greatly from hands on games to practice their foundational skills in reading and math. These resources will give them a variety of games to practice their letter names, letter sounds, number identification, counting, and basic addition and subtraction.
These games will make learning an engaging experience for them and help them make gains in their foundational reading and math skills.
The variety of games will provide students multiple opportunities to practice the skills in different ways. Students will have a choice system where they will get to choose between a variety of games to practice a specific skill. For example, they might choose to play the sight word fishing game or sight word pizza game to practice their sight words.
