Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning a second language is tricky! Many of my students struggle with second language acquisition daily. They pick up books that they think they will be interested in only to find that they can not read through many of the words. Listening to and seeing the words would be amazing for them
My students are wonderful kids!
They are eager to learn, and they love books! They try their best to work through their language barriers. Our school is amazing! We support our students to the fullest, and we try our best to make sure they receive the best education.
My Project
The Google tablet will really expand what students can do with reading. All our students, specifically our English Language Learners, can benefit greatly by having the ability to listen to and read along with digital books. Having the ability to listen to and follow along with ebooks will allow our English language learners to acquire new language. Such a support will eventually allow them to also create their own ebooks, book trailers, and so much more. Not only will this help support their reading skills, but it will assist in communication. We know we acquire vocabulary through reading. Our hope is that this project will aide in their reading abilities, but that it will also strengthen their conversational language.
Supporting students in the ability to understand a new language is our goal.
We hope to be able to give our English language learners an option when it comes to reading---an option that will lessen their struggles.
