My Students
Reading for pleasure is every teacher's ultimate goal for students. When reading texts that are entertaining and engaging, young readers are not always aware that they are learning new skills and practicing strategies. Robert Munsch's library of funny books will perfectly meet this goal.
I currently serve 21 amazing second graders with a love of reading and a true desire to learn.
My school has a very diverse community, with students ranging from middle class to poverty. Students travel from various locations to get to school, and many are brought by bus from the lower income parts of town.
My Project
Students will be able to study the common themes and style of writing that runs throughout Robert Munsch's library. Young readers will activate prior knowledge and add to their existing schema in the way of studying characters and themes. As a result, my students will be well prepared as they enter the next grade to delve further into their learning.
My students have a desire to learn and a true love of reading. I believe that this will help them to be better readers. My hope is that it will help to prepare them for third grade, where they will be reading to learn not learning to read.
