Help me give my students books so they can get excited about reading! We are trying to add to our library of older book titles by increasing a variety of graphic novels, informational books, and requested authors.
Our community is filled with a highly diverse number of families. Over 20 languages are represented at our kindergarten through 6th grade students. Our staff is all very child centered and provide rigorous academic experiences, in a safe caring environment. Our goal for our students is to provide them learning experiences to prepare them for college, career, and life. We want them to be happy, healthy, and confident. Our students need more movement and cooperative learning experiences. Teachers emphasize learning experiences involving reading, writing, and speaking as well as understanding the world around us.
My Project
Supplying new books to a library media center can spark reluctant readers, especially in grades 4th and 5th. Graphic novels and fun fact books as well as including requested authors can help students gain an appreciation for reading books. Increasing the number of books per school year has been a focus for our students. The books selected were chosen by 5th grade students who have not been checking books out of the library media center. Our hope is that it will improve their reading abilities and competencies. If students are excited to read new books, they will increase the amount of time they read.
