Our school serves students in grades PreK-6 and provides rich academics, fantastic teachers, and a safe learning environment. Our school is Title I, meaning that the majority of our students come from low-income families. We serve many English Language Learners, students with special needs, and students living in poverty. Our school is also unique in that we have a significant refugee population, creating a wonderfully diverse atmosphere.
Despite their everyday challenges, our students are eager learners who love coming to school each day!
They are bright, inquisitive, kind and just a joy to teach! Their interests are as varied as their stories and that makes each day a new adventure!
My Project
As a teacher, I am always striving to create engaging and meaningful learning experiences that spark excitement and a love of reading in my students. Some of the best ways to do this is through books that reflect their own life experiences and through collaborative projects that help them see the values, interests, struggles and talents of other children.
These books will allow my class to participate in the 2019 Global Read Aloud, a program that connects young readers across the world and unites them through literature and shared experiences.
My students will read these books and engage in discussions and activities centered around their themes. We will then connect with other classes across the globe who have done the same.
