In what ways does religion impact life? Even if one isn't religious, religion historically caused and continuously causes conflict, violence, and even war. Given its importance, as students learn about world religions they must be able to relate to characters, so that they can be more tolerant.
The ninth grade students in my Humanities class are reflective, and they enjoy reading fiction.
The motto of the charter school is "Step up. Do right. Dream big", and as young high school students, my students attempt to embody each of these principles as young scholars in training and as humans. My students daily accept to accept social and academic challenges, be kind, and aspire to always be growing and improving. When they read as a class, they enjoy analyzing characters and also engaging in discussions and debates. Their academic investment and inquisitiveness makes learning and teaching enjoyable. I truly enjoy my profession given that the 9th grade students in my diverse Humanities class enjoy learning, reading, discussing, challenging, and engaging with one another.
My Project
One of the main goals of reading fictional books is to encourage students to be more knowledgeable about ethical beliefs and thereby more open to tolerance. Many students are uninformed about religion. However, many are open and inquisitive about religion or religious practices. Additionally, by reading about characters, which are compelling or engage in interesting plots, students will learn about others, and also their own morals or beliefs as they connect to or critique the characters. Students will learn about ethical beliefs, a major world religion, and how people resolve conflicts, which are often based on religious differences.
Novels about religious conflicts and beliefs are useful resources to illustrate human practices and interactions and also the effects of religion.
Religion, whether one wants to admit the significance or not, permeates and determines communal relationships, cultural practices, and social conditions including laws, jobs, and biases. Learning about religion will promote tolerance and will help to dispel religious stereotypes and misunderstandings.
