This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from a large, urban community that is made up of various ethnicities from all over the world. We are a Title I school, and educate a large population of English language leaners (ELs) as well as students who live below the poverty line. Free breakfast and lunch are available to every student in our building each day, as well as a free fruit or vegetable snack a few days of the week.
My students love to learn!
The students in my class are clever and caring young people with bright futures ahead of them!
My Project
My students love to read, especially historical fiction novels. This is a difficult genre to supply for third graders. They need texts that are engaging while still being developmentally appropriate. I have the beginnings of some historical fiction series in my classroom library, but this project would allow me to complete these series. The Ranger in Time, I Survived, Baseball Card Adventure, and the Flashback Four series are all engaging chapter book series that will not only be interesting but will also help to build the background knowledge of my students.
