One of the biggest surprises I have had in teaching 4th grade on the far south side of Chicago has been the enormous diversity in reading levels among my students. This year, I have members of my class who read at the level of high school freshmen while other members struggle to identify quickly the letters in the alphabet and basic sounds. Naturally, meeting the needs of this range of students has been a challenge. I have been aided greatly by the use of the website "Readinga-z.com", a site which has leveled reading materials as well supplements. I have been able to use these to conduct leveled groups in my classroom and provide my struggling readers texts that they can work with. Unfortunately, this website has only limited materials for free. In order to access the full range of materials, educators must purchase a subscription. I am requesting an Individual Plus subscription to Readinga-z in order that I may continue to have resources to use in leveled reading instruction. I have seen my most disaffected students blossom only because they are given work that they can be successful at. Many of my students are simply too far behind to achieve success with modifications to 4th grade texts-they need access to resources that are on their level in order to grow. This subscription will allow me to continue what has been a successful process of differentiating for my students as well as proividing ideas and tools which I can share with my colleagues. It is a simple request but one that will dramatically change the way my most disengaged students learn to read. Thank you for your time and consideration.
