My students are fantastic workers and eager to learn. It's amazing to see the engagement when I am teaching a lesson. The students participate and ask questions on a regular basis.
Despite being a very low poverty area, my students are always eager to please and learn.
I'm in awe that these students, who come from struggling families, are so eager to better themselves. It empowers me as a teacher to better myself and reach for the stars as well.
My Project
The Wonder novel is a story about a boy who doesn't look like everyone and is often stared at or made fun of because of his differences. It will teach my students about the power of friendship and acceptance. Our society is full of children with differing abilities and children need to learn how to be kind to everyone regardless of disability, race, creed, or color.
They will truly learn how to be kind as the theme of the novel is, "In a world where you can be anything, choose kind." This novel will emphasize that children have great potential to make the world a better place by accepting everyone regardless of their appearance.
Ultimately, this novel will teach my students how to be better people and how to bring out the best in others. This project will also include many hands-on STEAM activities including making music, building a sled, building a pyramid, and creating a mural.
Students will also be exposed to daily motivational quotes. They will create written responses to these quotes and other life-altering and thought-provoking journal entries.
