Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students I teach come from high poverty, low literacy backgrounds. Despite this, I am a witness to say just how deserving and eager they are to learn and improve themselves. I come from a rich literary background and especially enjoy sharing my love of literature and writing with my students. But to do this requires, in many cases, classroom sets of reading materials (novels) that make individual, as well as shared and guided, reading possible is not available at my school. Any donations you can make toward helping me purchase and supply my classroom with reading materials would be truly appreciated.
My Project
Finding reading material for 4th graders that is engaging is not always easy. Finding reading material to support a classroom is also difficult. This project can help me solve both of these problems.
This will give my students a chance to fall in love with reading, perhaps for the first time in their lives.
My focus as a 4th grade teacher is to get my students hooked on reading early enough in their lives, that they will always look back at this school year and be reminded of how valuable this skill is. I want my students to think of themselves as Life Long Learners.
