The students at my school are from low income families. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free lunch.
Our library is the center of learning in our diverse population.
Our students visit the library often for a variety of reasons and we want to continue to serve them.
Our students are creative and energetic. They want to learn. We serve a school with a large population of students with special medical needs. Our school is funded through Title I. We are 100 % free lunch.
The students will be using the weekly Scholastic News magazines to find books in the library that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these magazines will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
These magazines are a unique way to keep kids current with what's happening in the world around them, but on their level.
The magazines encourage class discussions of topics kids see on the news every day!
