Readers of all ages and ability deserve books of high interest and quality content.
My students are struggling readers which often times leaves them lacking confidence about books and their ability to enjoy them.
Teaching at a small school with many students at an economic disadvantage, my challenge is great to close the gaps and instill a love of books and confidence in my students as readers. I love my job, my students, and my school, but funding is low and we lack the means necessary to purchase these multi-level books my students would benefit from so greatly.
My Project
I'm requesting high interest books ranging in levels from Pre-K to 4th grade with controlled vocabulary. Not only will having multi-leveled books in my classroom allow my students to experience success with fluency, they will also build confidence among students who generally do not read independently. Fluency builds to comprehension and comprehension leads to greater learning.
My classroom is a place for intervention but also a safe environment where personal reading levels are embraced and grown upon.
It is a place for trial, error, success, and taking the necessary steps to close the gap. These books will help me lead my students in taking those steps. Everything is built on reading and I believe these books will help in developing students who not only know the importance of reading, but also think it is fun!
