This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach 3rd grade in a high need community in North Carolina. Despite many challenges, my students come to school with teachable spirits and are motivated about learning.
The 3rd graders in my classroom are hooked on becoming better readers, writers and spellers this year. They are excited about perfecting their newly learned cursive handwriting skills, reading engaging and challenging books and publishing their own writings. Resources are in high demand in a community that does not have the adequate parental or financial support.
The paper, books and other materials that are included with this request will ensure that 3rd grade students at my school have what they need in order to be successful in the areas of reading, writing and spelling.
The paper will provide the resources for literacy centers, guided reading groups and spelling activities. The books and bean bag chairs will create a relaxing and inviting book nook for students to enjoy reading in. And the writing handbooks will most definitely increase the writing skills of my students.
Third grade is a pivotal year. Students are no longer learning to read, but rather have made the shift in which they now read to learn. Without strong literacy skills, students in the 3rd grade are subject to fall even farther behind. With your help, you can positively impact the 3rd grade students at my school.
