Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss
This is my first year implementing Reader's Workshop in my classroom. My goal as a teacher is to make learning to read enjoyable and turn my students into lifelong readers.
My classroom is comprised of 21 ELD students.
This means that English is their 2nd language. My students work very hard, are driven, motivated, and have begun to truly enjoy reading. They love listening to stories and are becoming phenomenal readers. They are eager to continue reading and growing!
My Project
Reader's Workshop is a powerful way to structure reading class. It encourages students to choose their own books and learn to select appropriate books while discovering the joy in reading. When students choose their own books, they develop a love for reading that lasts a lifetime. Children who spend more time reading become better readers. The materials selected for this project will help us smoothly and effectively implement Reader's Workshop in our classroom. The composition books will become response journals where students are able to make connections and respond to literature. The easel will help me to facilitate reading groups in any area of the classroom. The book buddy bags will hold each students individual leveled texts that allow students to confident reading because the leveled texts have enough words they already know while introducing some new vocabulary. They enjoy the story because they aren't struggling to decode the words and are able to comprehend what they read.
This project is important to me because it will allow me to guide my students through their reading journeys and help me make reading accessible to my students in order to create lifelong readers!
Donating to my project would provide my students with the materials we need to successfully implement Reader's Workshop and help them to continue growing. Reading opens many windows for ELD students.
