My Students

Students begin each day with listening to an inspiring book. This book takes us on our journey to be a better writer and reader. Our class needs high level picture books to serve as examples as we learn to be good readers and writers.

My students are multicultural.

We are a suburban school with sixty percent poverty. They are hard workers and we have excellent attendance! We are a Leader In Me school. We practice Steven Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Students are leaders in amazing ways. We have buddy classrooms so that older students can encourage younger learners. Every student has a leadership role in the building. We are truly "student led".

My Project

These mentor texts will be on display for my students to use whenever they need examples of great writing. I will also be using them in our daily reader's and writer's workshops. Students will learn to model their writing after these authors. They will raise the bar on reading and writing.

My students are not able to travel past their close community.

These stories will take their imaginations to different places cultures and times. They will be able to write about deeper topics than just their daily lives.
